A metallophone with thin bronze bars each suspended by rope and posts over a tuned tube resonator. Gendèr panembung have six bars (for gamelan sléndro) or seven bars (for gamelan pélog), and there is only one of these instruments in a gamelan. The bars, which are struck with a beater that has a padded disc head, produce a strong, sustained tone with a soft attack.
