gendèr

Gendèr” is the generic term for gamelan single- and multi-octave metallophones the bars of which are arranged in scalar fashion and are suspended by ropes and posts over tube resonators each of which is tuned to resonate the frequency of the bar located above it. Stick beaters with padded disc heads are used to sound the keys; the performer of a single-octave gendèr uses one such beater, while the player of a multi-octave gendèr uses two beaters, one in each hand.
