bonang

Bonang” is the generic designation for gamelan gong chimes of from 3 to 14 hand-forged, tuned gongs arranged in one or two rows. The gongs have deep in-turned rims, in-slopping shoulders, and a flat surface surrounding the base of a dome-shaped knob, which is the part of the gong that the performer strikes with a stick beater tightly wound with rope padding.
